Family enterprise in Salzburg’s Alps
Run by a family for families: Hotel Übergossene Alm
From a small bed and breakfast back in 1964 grew one of the best spa and resort hotels in Austria – the Alpine resort & Spa die Übergossene Alm . Behind this story of success stands the name of the Burgschwaiger family who run the hotel to this day.
Alois Burgschwaiger was one of the pioneers of tourism within the cosy alpine village of Dienten; not just the building of the hotel but also the development of the ski region surrounding the hotel has to be attributed to him. The entrepreneur, who built up the hotel with his wife Anna, also built the ski lift Liebenau.
The couple’s vision is fascinating: even in the 1970s, when holidays in Austria were nowhere near as popular as they are today, these two had already envisaged that people would long for what the Übergossene Alm had to offer: nature, mountain air, originality and authenticity.
Family business: now in the 2nd generation
With son Wolfgang Burschwaiger taking over the hotel business, the course of the Hotel Übergossene Alm was set for the future. The upgrading of the hotel to a 4* superior category is an accolade that the young MD has worked hard for together with his employees.
It is Wolfgang Burgschwaiger’s strong wish to lead the parental hotel into new heights of success. Supported by his partner Iris Krobath and the whole Alm-team the Burgschwaiger family have succeeded in entering the select circle of the best family-run hotels of Austria as they became a Best Wellness Hotel and a “Feel good in Austria” Hotel.
Big plans
To rest on their laurels is not the style of the Burgschaiger family. Therefore, shortly after rebuilding the lobby and bar area of the hotel, further remodelling of the hotel in Salzburg’s mountains is already in the planning. In autumn 2008 the Haus Petra, which today is a part of the Übergossene Alm hotel, was completely renovated and brought up to the standard of the spa-resort hotel. In collaboration with cousin Peter Burgschwaiger from the Schneggbauer Farm a wood chip factory was built, which powered by regional resources will eliminate 400 tonnes of CO² emissions per year. Another future development will include a spacious children’s playing area as well as a “chill-out arena” for teenagers.
One thing is sure: any further developments at the Übergossene Alm Hotel will fall in line with the sustainability guidelines, which characterises the hotel business. The Burgschwaiger family knows that the natural paradise surrounding the hotel is unique and it therefore needs protecting.
