Superb country traditions during the most colourful time of the year
Austrian cuisine in autumn As soon as the leaves on the trees change colour from green to strong reds and yellows, the wonderful hiking season starts in the Hochkönig region. Salzburgerland traditions in autumn
When days become shorter and the nights colder, it's time for the "Almabtrieb" - a ceremonial driving down of cattle from the mountain pastures into the valley. The Austrians traditionally celebrate this event with big harvest festivals. Over the whole of Salzburgerland the farmer's Harvest Festival starts, lasting for several weeks. Look forward to a big celebration in Dienten with folk music & dancing, Schuhplattler, handicraft demonstrations and of course the farmer's harvest market with Salzburgerland's most delicious delicacies.
Apart from the many traditional events in Dienten, there are more than 2,000 other events over the whole of Salzburgerland. Handicrafts, traditional and culinary tastes are to the fore up to the end of October.
