The story says, that a long time ago mountaineers kept pulling a cart with golden treasures up the mountain during full moon nights. Human children, who were able to touch the treasure, were supposed to be rich and happy for the rest of their lives.
One day two poor shepherd boys from Dienten at Hochkönig were lucky enough to spot the secretive transport and tried to get close to the treasure. Though not with the necessary godliness – which resulted in dire consequences. At the exact moment, when the boys wanted to grab the treasure, a massive rumbling and roaring was heard and the treasure disappeared into the deep ground forever. And that’s where it is still laying today, how the hostess at Bürgalm knows to report, who will serve a hearty meal after the guests have heard the story.
